In light of today’s featured story, I thought it would be a good time to tell you about the creation of the film Rocky…

Did you know Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky?

The reason why is that nobody wanted to hire this unknown NY actor due to his slurred speech.

During one audition, the casting director liked him, but not enough to cast him.

They asked him…’ Do you have anything else?’

Stallone lied and said he had written an underdog boxing script. They wanted to see it the following week!

So, over the weekend in the summer of 1975, he locked himself in his room for 3 days. Blacked out the windows and wrote to his fingers bled.

The casting directors loved it.

BUT that’s only part 1 of this story.

Newquay Bomb is British middleweight champion

Cornwall has a new sporting hero after boxer Brad Pauls became the first British middleweight champion from the duchy since 1939.

The 31-year-old yelled: “ Kernow bys vyken ! Cornwall forever!” after his triumph against Nathan Heaney last night - and promised to bring his belt back to his native Newquay.

The fighter, nicknamed “the Newquay bomb”, beat “the Hitman” Heaney with a 12th-round stoppage in Birmingham.

It was Paul’s 21st fight, and it came after he drew a previous bout against Heaney in his hometown of Stoke in March.
