September 25 - First NQY Mural is now complete

Good Morning,

Last night, I was thinking about what I wanted in life, and I realised you don’t always want what you think you want.

Let me explain.

I want to ‘know’ how to surf, but I don’t want to ‘learn’ how to surf.

I just want all the benefits of it.

When I’m old, I want to be the random guy at a beach party who grabs a board, paddles out back, and catches a crazy barrel.

I want all the fame for two minutes of my life, but I don’t want to put in the hours of practice required to be a great surfer.

The fact is, I don’t love surfing.

Yet, I have a mate (Josh Knowles), and all he wants to do is surf.

When he was a kid, he surfed for GB, but ask him now if he wants to enter Boardmasters, and he couldn’t think of anything worse.

His passion is surfing, not the fame.

So, how do you know what you want?

The simple answer is:

You need to love the journey more than the outcome.

📖 Featured Story

The First NQY Mural is now complete.

The MUQY Street Art Walking Trail is taking shape on Newquay’s high street; the first mural is now complete, proudly displayed on MIX NQY’s wall on East Street.

Led by Jack Tierney from Slapdash Studio and created by talented Cornwall-based artist Kleiner Shames, it captures an abstract beach scene using ideas generated at a workshop hosted by Youth Art Connect.

Work on the second mural is starting this week, where Elle Koziupa will bring her ‘photo-and realism’ style to a wall on Fore Street.

It will feature a fisherman inspired by Newquay Museum and Archive photographs. Elle, twenty years old, already has an impressive portfolio, working on large-scale mural projects nationally.

The mural will be kept under wraps (under scaffolding) until the grand unveiling.
