August 28 - The Griffin: A Classic Property Developer Scam?
Good Morning,
So, Oasis got back together yesterday.
Unfortunately, I was brainwashed by boyband pop music as a child—Boyzone, Westlife, etc. So, I was never a fan of Britpop, but I do believe in 'family first.'
Something I always tell my kids is that as you get older, plenty of people will hate you in this world, so the last thing we need to do is hate each other.
Seeing these guys get back together makes me happy for their mother.

The Griffin: A Classic Property Developer Scam?
New plans have been submitted to turn the Griffin into a 34-unit with a cafe and commercial space. 🙄
Plans were initially proposed for 42 units, but interestingly, Historic England raised concerns — NOT Cornwall Council. 🤑
This is how the property developer scam works...
The Developer submits a stupid request, knowing they will be turned down and then comes back with what they really want.
Example:
These developers submitted plans for 42, knowing full well it would be turned down or a community uproar.
All along, they only really wanted 34 units.
But it makes them look good for 'downsizing' their original plans.
It's a big circle jerk.
The tactic JT describes is known in the industry as "salami-slicing".
The idea is that the initial large plan sets a high benchmark, making a smaller subsequent plan seem more reasonable by comparison, even if the smaller plan might have been rejected if submitted on its own initially.
This approach can be controversial and is viewed by some as a way to manipulate the planning process.
However, it’s not necessarily illegal unless it violates specific planning rules or regulations.

📸 Nostalgic Photo of the Day
On the 16th, I asked, "Can someone tell me where there is?" and received a reply from a lady called Jane Tutte.
It was a great reply.
I feel it deserves to be shared below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The Hotel Bolowthas was originally a private residence owned by a J Rogers Esq JP. It was built between 1901 and 1905. Ironically, the house was available to rent from Mr Rogers for weeks at a time in the summer for holidays.
By the 1950's It became the Savoia Hotel and Country Club. I think it dropped the country club part and was just called the Hotel Savoia. Then around 1970 it became the Hotel Riviera which was run successfully for years.
Unfortunately, this was demolished around 2015 and is now occupied by Lusty Glaze One on Lusty Glaze Road, a row of houses on Bonython Road and another block of apartments called Bolwothas Court on the corner of Bonython and Lusty Glaze.
