Good Morning,
Rocky Continued…
Before Stallone wrote Rocky, he was so poor he couldn’t afford to feed his dog, Butkus.
He stood outside a liquor store and offered Butkus to anyone willing to buy him for $50. Just enough money to live in NY for another couple of weeks.
After Stallone wrote Rocky, he was offered $265,000!
That’s £1.4 million in today’s money!
At the time, he only had $106 in the bank, BUT he refused to sell.
This was his Rocky moment. He wanted to play the lead.
So, instead, he was paid $23,000 upfront to be the lead and then after a percentage of any profits made.
So what did Stallone do with the $23,000?
He went to get Butkus back!
For weeks, Stallone went to the liquor store where he sold Butkus. Every day, all day, he waited, hoping to bump into his new owner.
One day, he struck gold, but the guy didn’t want to sell. He guessed Stallone was some Hollywood star.
Long story short, Stallone paid $15,000 to get his dog back!
Rocky ended up making $225 million, earning Stallone $2.5m!
Gamble of the Century.
And yes, the dog in Rocky is Butkus! 😃

Whipsiderry to be cut off to the public today
A lockable gate will be installed at the top of Whipsiderry today.
The new gate is being installed to deter people from using the steps as the steps have been closed for safety reasons (currently until 9th Feb 2025).
There is a code for the gate and this has been shared with ALL of the emergency services.
So if you know the code feel free to DM me…
I promise 🤥 I won’t share it with mysurfer mates who have surfed this beach for over 30 years.
